I completed my adult psychiatry residency at Hennepin County Medical center in Minneapolis, Minnesota and my fellowship training in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Washington/Seattle Children’s hospital in Seattle, Washington. In addition to my training in adult and child & adolescent psychiatry, Psychodermatology is my area of interest and research. Disorders such as trichotillomania, skin picking and psychogenic itching are some of the problems in this area I take deep interest. Along with medication management I also utilize other modalities of treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, supportive psychotherapy and habit reversal therapy.

 

My treatment philosophy includes a bio-psycho-social model, putting more emphasis on exploring the factors leading to the current problem in the context of family, interpersonal relationships and various other psychosocial stressors. Medications are often very important part of the treatment but in combination with therapy they work more effectively. My approach towards medications in children and adolescents is conservative. When psychotherapy and behavioral interventions are not helpful then medications could be tried in a minimal dose.
